LYON FOCUSED ON REBUILDING TEAM

Former European heavyweights Olympique Lyon are focusing on rebuilding the team.

The French side are in the last four of the Europa League this term. They are set for a showdown with Dutch giants Ajax but they are the second favourites to lift the title behind Manchester United.

France Football reported that the club is already looking at long term impact so they want to get Man United’s Anthony Martial on a loan deal to help them in front of goal. With United losing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, it becomes a tight move as United would look at adding than selling off.

Lyon president Aulas considered the move in January and he would go ahead with a formal request despite Ibrahimovic’s injury, the report says. Martial has struggled this term despite having a decent run last year – his debut season. He needs to get back to form to increase his chances in the national team. He featured in Europe due to his run for United but his future does not seem bright in the set-up if he does not get back on track.

There are qualifications games and then the World Cup proper next year. These reasons could force him to consider Lyon but it also rests with Coach Jose Mourinho.

Lyon are also in the market for Chelsea star Bertrand Traore. Reports in France say the club wants to make their move before the current season ends. He has been a target for Lyon since last year I Love Bayern Munich but they hope to finally land him as the Blues might not keep him any further. The player is currently on loan at Ajax and he has been in decent form of late. The Burkina Faso striker is expected to feature when Lyon play Ajax and it would present another opportunity to see him in action.
